The Difference Between Dermal Fillers and Botox<\/h2>\n

Many people have heard of dermal fillers<\/a> and botox<\/a>, but few know that, while there are some similarities, these treatments are quite different. They\u2019re both injectable treatments used in areas of the face, with alternative uses of the body consistently being researched and discovered.\u00a0 However, they\u2019re made from completely different substances and act very differently after treatment.<\/p>\n

What they\u2019re made of<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Dermal fillers and Botox are made of very different materials, which have different uses within the face and skin. Dermal fillers are injectable, gel-like substances that contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar element in the skin. Botox, on the other hand, is a medically-regulated toxin that comes in liquid form. This is where the first of their differences lie.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>How they act within the skin<\/strong><\/h2>\n

These two injectable treatments differ greatly in\u00a0 how they work. Dermal fillers are used to create volume, contour and structure in areas of the face. In fact, they add to the treatment area in order to produce an immediately visible result. They can treat facial folds where the skin has become thin and folded against itself, but not wrinkles when the skin is in action or expression – this is a job for Botox. While dermal fillers add to the treatment area for immediately noticeable enhancement, Botox works within the muscles beneath this tissue. It helps to inhibit their animation, meaning that particularly prevalent frown lines and crow\u2019s feet can be treated – less movement means less wrinkles! While dermal fillers are effective for soft tissue enhancement, Botox is primarily for relaxing overactive muscles to reduce wrinkles.<\/p>\n

Is one safer than the other?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

It\u2019s difficult to compare both treatments\u00a0in this way, as both use different components to rejuvenate the skin. However, both are safe for aesthetic uses. Dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, which is naturally broken down by the skin over time. Because fillers are compatible with your skin and biodegradable, they are very safe for aesthetic use and only come with minor side effects such as slight swelling. Botox is made from a regulated medical toxin that has been FDA approved for use within certain areas of the face and to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). Botox does come with some side effects that include flu-like symptoms, but these are entirely natural. These treatments are at their absolute safest when performed by a medical professional trained in aesthetic treatments, so we\u2019d always strongly advise seeking a registered professional if you\u2019re considering either treatment.<\/p>\n
